What good is the government that cannot provide anti-rabies vaccine for the treatment of victims of Dog bites? When a dog bites a human being the latter gets a disease known as rabies in the medical parlance.
According to a press report 25000 dog bite victims joined the great majority in Sindh alone recently because due to non-availability of anti-rabies vaccines they could not be treated properly in government hospitals. The victim of a dog bite must be given anti -rabies vaccine within 24 hours of the dog bite otherwise he cannot survive. . The same is true of Punjab also where non-availability of anti-rabies vaccine is also reported . This vaccine used to be imported from India but after strained Indo-Pak relations its import has stopped and the authorities didn’t make arrangement for its import from other sources. Hence the present crisis.
In the past one never came across such a big number of dog bite cases from any place in the country. The concernced staff of the Municipal committees or corporations used to be seized of the matter and it never allowed the population of pye dogs multiplying to the extent where they could pose such a big threat to the citizens. The local bodies must take the flak for their negligence in eliminating pye dogs who are often seen moving in droves in the lanes of the cities as well in rural areas . The children womenfolk and the elderly persons often fall prey to them.
Isn’t the decision of the Sindh government that it is going to vaccinate the pye dogs laughable? Would it be bringing them up by providing dog food and shelter to them and then vaccinating them after every four months?
