SRINAGAR, January 3: In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Geelani has said that Jammu and Kashmir is a political and humanitarian issue, which cannot be resolved through military might.
Syed Ali Geelani in a statement in Srinagar pointed out that Indian Army and police had created an atmosphere of threat, intimidation and harassment all across the territory. Kashmir, he added, is being virtually run through martial law. He called upon human rights organizations to play their role in locating whereabouts of Kashmiri youth, who had been subjected to enforced disappearance by Indian troops and police personnel. The veteran leader denounced arrests of youth and ransacking of houses by the Indian police in Pulwama.
The All Parties Hurriyet Conference in a statement in Srinagar urged the international community to help resolve the Kashmir dispute as per the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The High Court Bar Association of the territory in a statement in Srinagar condemned the detention of advocate Shabbir Bukhari by Indian police and demanded his immediate release.
Meanwhile, shutdown continued for the fourth consecutive day, Sunday in Pulwama in protest against the recent killing of two youth by Indian troops. Hurriyet leaders Zamruda Habib, Musaddiq Aadil and Firdous Ahmad Shah along with delegations visited the residence of the martyred youth in Pulwama and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.-KMS
