Hazrat Khizr Mosque is located in the south of the Afrasi ab settlement, opposite a famous Siab Bazaar and the Bibi Khanum Mosque. The facade of the mosque consists of a fairly high base with arched niches “aivan” (canopy), which is closed from the west “guldasta” (corner a semi-tower) with brick veneer. Top aivan is completed with a number of bricks laid on edge – “dandana”. To the east of the mosque in the organic system includes an entrance portal – “darvazahana” with “guldasta” and beautiful carved doors. This series closes the eastern minaret.
Hazrat Khizr Mosque – one of the oldest Muslim religious buildings in Samarkand. The mosque was built in the VIII century and was on the hill at the entrance to the city, close to the band appeared much later Shahi Zinda mausoleums and Siab market. Around the mosque later emerged cemetery. According to legend, there are seven levels of graves and bodies at each level of the saints or prophets.
The mosque was destroyed in the XIII c. by horde of Genghis Khan. It was later restored and rebuilt several times, and its today’s appearance in the XIX century. From its beautiful view of the other sights of Samarkand you can see remarkable places such as Registan Square, Shahi Zinda Mausoleum and Bibi Khanum architectural complex. To the north of the mosque is located an ancient place Afrasiab -in Samarkand.
Hazrat Khizr – one of the Muslim saints, patron of travelers, is responsible for water resources and wealth. Its name in Arabic means “green light”, ie “Living”. According to legend, he is a descendant of Adam in the 20th generation.
According to legend, God created the spirit of Hazrat Khizr, 300 years before the creation of the Earth and everything else. When he came upon Khizr in material form, then give him eternal life and made him the rulers of all the water. In Greek mythology, it corresponds to the god of water – Neptune. He is considered one of the saints, which met a person becomes happy, healthy, wealthy – are beginning to run desires. It is said that people can be tripled to meet Hazrat Khizr in thir life.
Interpreters of Islam’s claim that Khizr was unknown mentor of Musa (Moses), which narrates the Holy Scripture (Quran 18:60-82).
Khizr taught Musa to be tolerate and not to be angry and not to condemn people for things and actions, meaning that he does not know. Perhaps people have a good reason for their actions. It may be that they are guided by good intentions and do not wish to cause harm. You should not be complacent and assume that you know everything and that no one who would know more than you, and would be more knowledgeable. A person should do good, even if it will receive nothing, as it is good to benefit the other good people.
According to legend, Hazrat Khizr – is immortal, it is lighter than air, but can control his body in the wind, and on the move, hovering slightly above the ground, it is considered very lucky to meet him, let alone grasp his clothes – it is considered that a person who will meet him must be lucky, and he will be happy.
Such kind of folk beliefs about Khizr are very much. By the way, the legends of Khizr partially substantiated and the famous Oriental hospitality, as Khizr can come in any guise at any time.
