ISLAMABAD, August 10: The 58th anniversary of the Legendary Erenköy Resistance and those who were martyred in the resistance were commemorated in a ceremony held in Erenköy on Sunday.
In his speech at the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar stated that Erenköy Resistance, which has a special place in the history of the struggle of the Turkish Cypriots, is equal to the legendary battle of Çanakkale and that it has been a source of inspiration in the struggle for existence.
President Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots, who were students in Türkiye and the UK, suspended their educational studies and went to Erenköy in small boats from Anamur, Türkiye, and took an oath to protect the village at all costs, reluctantly Greek-Greek Cypriot attacks were properly repelled and an epic was written.
Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs MevlütÇavu?o?lu made a speech at the official opening of the XIII. Ambassadors Conference with the theme of “Wise and Compassionate Turkish Diplomacy on the Eve of 2023 and Beyond” held in Ankara on 8 August 2022.
Noting that peace and cooperation should prevail in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, Çavu?o?lu said, ” The key to a solution in the Cyprus issue is clear. The vested rights of the Turkish Cypriot people that are sovereign equality and equal international status must be registered.”
