Beijing said on Thursday the U.S. should not expect it to use its core interests as leverage in exchange for a slash in tariffs that Washing ton had previously imposed on China. “There are no winners in trade wars,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a regular briefing. The U.S.’ prompt termination of duties on China will benefit both countries and the world, he said.
In a Wednesday interview on Bloomberg TV, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the Taiwan island had made geopolitics with China “particularly complicated,” especially at a time when President Joe Biden is considering whether to eliminate some China tariffs. In response to Raimondo’s comment, Wang said it is crystal clear who is responsible for the current tensions around the Taiwan Straits. “The U.S. needs to immediately fix its mistakes and make a sincere return to the one-China principle and the three Joint Communiques.” – CGTN
