LEEDS: Pakistan opening batter Shan Masood signed a two-year deal with Yorkshire Country Cricket Club (CCC) after a successful season for Derbyshire this year.
Shan, who amassed 1,774 runs for Derbyshire this season, will join Yorkshire for the 2023 county season and represent the team for the next two years. Shan expressed his pleasure over joining the likes of former Pakistan skippers Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan and Sarfaraz Ahmed, who represented the club in the past. “I’m delighted to have signed for Yorkshire,” said the left-handed batter as quoted by Espncricinfo.
“The pedigree and the history of Yorkshire CCC is massive and to play at Headingley week in week out is a dream. To follow in the footsteps of the three Pakistan captains (Inzamam ul Haq, Younis Khan and Sarfaraz Ahmed) that have represented Yorkshire is really exciting.”
Furthermore, the 32-years-old cricketer stated that he was looking forward to sharing the dressing room with some really talented players including the current England players like Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Adil Rashid, Dawid Malan and Harry Broo “I’m also looking forward to working with Ottis Gibson again, having worked closely with him in the PSL (Pakistan Super League) this year,” he added. It is pertinent to mention here that Shan played his last Test for Pakistan in January 2021 and has been part of the team’s Test squads for the home series against Australia and Sri Lanka tour, but remained on the bench for both series.
