SYDNEY, (Media report) – A legal notice has been served to Facebook owner Meta Platforms, Apple Inc., and Microsoft Corp. asking them to share ‘their strategies for stamping out child abuse material on their platforms’ or they have to face fines.
The Australian e-Safety Commissioner, which has been tasked with the responsibility of protecting internet users, told media that the Commission is using a law which only came into effect in January. It is forcing the major ‘technology giants’ to disclose within 28 days, measures which they were taking to detect and remove abusive material from their platforms. Otherwise, the companies are going to be fined, around 4 lakh dollars each, every day.
