shah-mehmood-qureshi0014ISLAMABAD, April 5: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan will attend the upcoming session of National Assembly on April 7 and present his party’s stance on Panama leaks.
Speaking to media persons after PTI’s Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Khan would take a lead and represent the sentiments of nation on this sensitive issue.
He said that PTI would also file an adjournment motion in the National Assembly. “As it is a very technical issue, PTI has decided to set up a committee of experts to study the legality of offshore wealth and holdings. The committee will then submit its recommendations to senior leadership,” he said.
PTI would chalk out its future strategy in the light of those recommendations, he said.
Referring to the formation of a two-member judicial panel to investigate Panama leaks in India, PTI demanded that Pakistan should follow suit.
“If India can form a judicial panel on Panama leaks, why can’t Pakistan hold an inquiry into Panama papers,” he questioned.
He noted that protests broke out in many countries over leaks and there were calls for the leaders to quit.
“If government is hesitant in ordering an inquiry, Supreme Court must step in and take a suo motto notice,” he demanded. -NNI
