ISLAMABAD, April 8: Minister, National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar said, The Quaid said “Without education it is complete darkness and with education it is light. Education is a matter of life and death to our nation. The world is moving so fast that if you do not educate yourselves you will be not only completely left behind, but will be finished up”. While She was addressing the 3rd Convocation of Bahria University Medical & Dental College, Karachi.
She said, Medical Sciences are going through rapid evolution with the advancements taking place in the field of biological sciences and allied technologies. Medical institutions, faculty and students, therefore, must work together to upgrade the curricula and skills-sets and for their environment to be more learner-friendly and research-oriented.
Minister said, Government is fully cognizant of the importance of medical education in Pakistan and is endeavoring to remove bottle necks in this sector. We draw great satisfaction from the fact that as a result of hectic continuous efforts, major reforms have been introduced by our Ministry in Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to restore the confidence of the medical fraternity. We now have a regular Pakistan Medical & Dental Council composed by the Federal Government, which is entrusted to run the affairs of the Council in a transparent manner so that the standard of medical education is not compromised.
She further said, There is now a better coordination between Ministry and Council for setting up a credible system of examination and registration.
The cause of promoting learning is a noble one. Every Muslim, and every Pakistani must strive to seek knowledge. We seek guidance and light from the sayings of Holy Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) and the message of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
She said, I call upon those graduating today to work with a constructive attitude and think in terms of solutions, not in terms of problems. You must uphold and preserve the highest ethical values because the role of a medical professional is to heal without discrimination. -PR
