ParliamentHouseISLAMABAD, April 11: The joint session of parliament witnessed ruckus after opposition members were not allowed from debating the Panama leaks scandal.
The joint sitting echoed with slogans “panama, panama, panama” while opposition members levelled allegations against the prime minister saying that he has stashed billions of rupees in offshore accounts. “Nawaz Sharif resort to loot and plunder under the shadow of parliament. Opposition will not allow him to do so,” they said.
Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said that the Panama leaks scandal was a national issue. The entire nation was worried over the disclosures. The nation wants answer when the looted money will be brought back, but the government was not allowing to debate on issue. It was injustice and intolerable.
“There is a contradiction in words and action of the government. We can not trust any promise of the government. There are charges against the prime minister and the matter is being debated all over the world,” he said.
Ahsan said that assets of the premier and his family were outside the country. The money has been transferred to offshore accounts to evade taxes while the prime minister exhorts the nation to pay tax. “Whether Sharif family has a magic stone that their wealth multiplies wherever they lay their hands on. This matter should be discussed in the joint sitting,” he demanded.
NA speaker said that the matter has been debated in the National Assembly and senators should debate the issue in Senate. Law Minister Zahid Hamid said that the government did not want to debate the issue in the joint sitting, which has been summoned to discuss legislation matter. Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah said that the government should demonstrate broad-mindedness and allow debate the issue. “No harm will be caused to the government and the debate will go in favour of government, which should exercise restraint and listen to what the opposition memebrs say,” he added. -Online
