SRINAGAR, April 12: In occupied Kashmir, two civilians and a woman were martyred and many others injured in firing by Indian troops on a peaceful protest demonstration in Handwara town, Tuesday.The youth were killed after Indian troops opened indiscriminate fire on people protesting against the molestation of a girl by the troops in Handwara area. The killed have been identified as Mohammad Iqbal, Nayeem Qadir Butt and a woman Raja Begum. The protesters also waved Pakistani flags in the town. APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have given call for the protest strike against the killing of young boys and continued Indian state terrorism in the territory.
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed across the territory, Tuesday, against the growing attacks on Kashmiri students in various states of India. Call for the strike was given by the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
Indian police placed Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Javaid Ahmad Mir, Zafar Akbar Butt, Peer Saifullah, Muhammad Ashraf Laya, Altaf Ahmed Shah and Raja Merajuddin under house arrest or illegal detention.Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar thanked the people for observing the shutdown. He said that a policy would be chalked out in consultation with other Hurriyet leaders and organizations for launching a series of protests if the harassment of Kashmiri students in India was not stopped.-KMS
