Contradictions galore in the deeds and sayings of the rulers of this country continue to mar their character. On the one hand, the rulers say that one of the main reasons for the downfall of national carrier is its over- staffing but, on the other, they themselves make more recruitments in it. As many as 1000 more employees out of their blue-eyed boys were inducted by them in the PIA during the past three years. They profess day in and day out that henceforth there would be no special protocol for the VVIPs but just look at the extensive protocol given to the prime minister’s entourage during the course of his visit to Peshawar on last Monday! That is the precise reason why the man in the street has now stopped believing whatever the politicians say, whether they are in power or in the opposition. Their credibility has touched its nadir as never before.
Bilawal has said many things in a single breath while addressing the lawyers in Lahore last Monday. He correctly identified that both the politicians and the Establishment did commit a lot of mistakes in the past for which the nation is paying the price today. The leaders of the party which he heads now proved itself to be the biggest culprit in this respect. Granted that the present rulers of this country are also past masters in the art of financial shenanigans but the PPP leaders were also no less experts in this field. Isn’t it a fact that from 1970 onwards, barring, of course, the military rule of Zia and Musharraf, it is these two political parties, namely the PPP and the (N) League, which have been ruling the roost in this country, turn by turn. Taken together they have been in the saddle for over two decades which is a helluva time for bringing about the changes in the life of the poor and promoting democracy in the true sense of the word if somebody really wants to!But what have they done instead? They have only minted money and fattened their private purse. They have promoted nepotism, failed to curb sectarianism and have rooted out democracy from the country instead of nursing it!While the common man in the process has become poorer, the rulers have become richer.
