1088867-arthurmooresafp-1461222771-209-640x480KARACHI: Former England head coach Peter Moores and South African Mickey Arthur have emerged as the new favourites to become Pakistan’s head coach among the foreign applicants, while Aaqib Javed is still in the race despite being offered the Director Cricket position by Pakistan Super League (PSL) side Lahore Qalandars.Moores coached England twice in 2008 and 2014 but was sacked on both occasions, while he has also coached Sussex and Lancashire Counties. On the other hand, Arthur enjoyed an outstanding coaching career with South Africa during Graeme Smith’s captaincy. He also became the first foreigner to coach Australia. However, his time Down Under was not too pleasant and he was sacked in 2013.The PCB is also keen on Aaqib as well after he resigned from the UAE national team. The former fast bowler was once favourite to take over as head coach from Waqar Younis before the board formed a two-member committee consisting of Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja to assist them in hiring a new coach. When Aaqib was contacted on the matter, he said that he is keeping his options open. “I’ve resigned from the UAE national team and will be going to Lahore soon,” Aaqib told The Express Tribune from the UAE.“Primarily I’m going to Lahore take up the offer from Lahore Qalandars but nothing has been officially signed with them yet,” he added. “Nobody from the PCB has contacted me regarding the head coach’s position recently, but if they do, I will mull it over.”
