PARC introduces two new sugarcane varieties for commercial cultivation

ISLAMABAD, April 22: Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC)’s research institute located in Sindh Province namely National Sugar and Tropical Horticulture Research Institute (NSTHRI) Thatta has introduced and released two new sugarcane varieties Thatta-2109 and Thatta-326 for commercial cultivation.
The said PARC sugarcane varieties were approved by the Sindh Provincial Seed Council in its meeting held in April 2016 under the chairmanship of Minister for Agriculture Sindh. The newly released sugarcane varieties were developed from exotic fuzz of Hoama, USA.
Both the sugarcane varieties possess high cane yield and sugar recovery potential and a good addition in existing pool of commercial sugarcane varieties in Sindh.-PR
