Mian Nawaz Sharif has advised all the ‘seekers’ of his ‘throne’ to bury their dreams till 2018. And also beyond. Meaning thereby that he intends to occupy ‘the throne’ well beyond this decade and if his luck and resources don’t run out, till eternity. The term ‘throne’ may make some impassioned loudmouths of ‘democratic order’ frown, but that ‘term’ should give immense intrinsic pleasure to Mian Sahib who has already embarked upon a regal plan to groom her royal highness Maryam Nawaz to be the next occupant of the throne which to many in the current scenario seems to be caught up in a storm that originated from a country called Panama—known to hide many a treasure of many a king.

History tells that thrones do get rocked by storms, but not all occupants meet the fate of Shah of Iran, Hosni Mubaraak and Marcos etc. Some do manage to hold onto the throne in a miraculous manner. Mian Nawaz Sharif believes he will survive this storm. The Opposition is too divided to pull the throne from under him, and time is running out for General Raheel Sharif.

In the final reckoning what is going to decide the fate of the throne is whether Mian Sahib’s luck is more invulnerable than that of the people of this country, or whether Pakistan’s long night of darkness is over at last, and Mian Sahib wakes up one gloomy morning to the realization that his throne has been swept away by the tidal wave of history as have been the thrones of all the previous monarchs.
