DG ISPR confirms conviction of six Army officers

DG ISPR AsimRAWALPINDI, May 4: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa has confirmed that the military has fired several senior officers over corruption charges, in a rare display of accountability by the country’s most powerful institution.
“Action against corruption in entire Army will continue and six officers have been convicted after they found guilty,” Bajwa said in an interview. He said the decision has been hailed in army also and cleaning and conviction process will continue in the institution.
The DG ISPR said a country wide large scale combing operation, as part of operation Zarb-e-Azb, would be initiated soon against terrorists to purge the country from terrorists’ safe havens. General Asim Bajwa said armed forces would clear the so called ‘No Go Areas’ exist in various areas of the country and hand over the areas to local police after clearance from vagabonds. Responding to a question, he said twenty-five miles areas have already been cleared from ‘Chotu Gang’ in South Punjab. The DG ISPR said a total of 18,000 intelligence based operations have already been conducted in various areas of the country. He said five hundred law enforcers have sacrificed their lives in operation Zarb-e-Azb. He said eleven Military Courts have so far disposed of 88 cases out of a total of 207 cases while various cases are near conclusion. General Asim Saleem Bajwa said the return of Temporarily Displaced Persons would be completed by the end of this year. He said the operation in almost all areas of Federally Administered Tribal Areas has been completed. -DNA
