KARACHI: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) arranged an anti-corruption workshop, headed by International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-corruption unit official Martin Vertigen, for the franchises at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.
On PCB’s request, ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) intelligence coordinator Vertigen delivered a lecture to educate the audience about anti-corruption strategy and various means to curb corruption. The workshop was attended by representatives of all five franchises, the PSL management and the integrity officers of all five teams. PCB security and anti-corruption director Col Mohammad Azam was also present. The representative of the franchises termed the workshop ‘very healthy’ and said they will now convey what they have learnt onto their respective franchises.
The PCB said it will continue to engage in such activities in the future and shall hold similar workshops for the teams as well, reiterating its zero tolerance policy towards corruption.PSL project director Salman Sarwar Butt said that it is very important to keep the PSL clean and ensure that its credibility is not compromised.“We all want a clean and corruption-free PSL in order to ensure that our T20 league is the best in the world, and this is why we invited ICC ACSU official Vertigen to deliver a lecture,” Butt toldButt felt everyone needs to be pulling in the same direction in order to ensure the credibility and integrity of the newly formed league. “It is the responsibility of all stakeholders to keep it clean,” he said. “We’re trying to create awareness among the franchises regarding ways to curb this menace and they will be given anti-corruption codes to follow once they are in the UAE.”
Meanwhile, PSL governing council chairman Najam Sethi added that an anti-corruption officer will be deployed with every team while they will also be monitored by a senior PCB anti-corruption official.
