New Delhi, May 9 : Former coach Mohsin Hassan Khan questioned the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to appoint South African Mickey Arthur as the head coach, saying he could transform the team to a winning unit if given another chance at the top job.
Khan, under whom the Pakistan team remained unbeaten in eight Tests, further said his record as coach speak volumes of his ability to turn the fortunes of the outfit.
“I don’t know what was cooking in PCB chairman and others’ mind and why they ignored my offer of taking responsibility of coaching green caps once again. I had challenged them to hand over same group of players, who are on a very low and not performing, I would completely transform them and turn them into winning unit,” Khan was quoting as saying by Indian media.
“I had made them very clear that my services are available for the national cricket team,” he added. The former Test opener, who also acted as PCB’s chief selector, further said that he declined the board’s offer to head the selection committee as the team management failed to get the desired results from the teams which he selected in the past.
But Khan said that he had made it very clear to the PCB he was ready to accept head coach or mentor role.”Believe me I had never given importance to money as I always wanted to serve Pakistan cricket in the best possible manner. Former PCB chairman Ijaz Butt was full of praise of my abilities and even Zaka Ashraf asked me why I am not demanding raise in my meagre salary. I told him very clearly that money does matter but I am not bothered about demanding raise in my salary, rather I wanted to help Pakistan team to scale down new heights,” he said.
“I had no complaints, as I was not asking for the head coach job for personal gains, rather for national interest. If they feel a foreign coach could get the best out of Pakistani players, my best wishes and prayers like past are always with the team,” he added.-Online
