Army Chief, Chinese PM reaffirm commitment to complete CPEC

CHINA, May 17: Army chief General Raheel Sharif met on Tuesday Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and reaffirmed to work closely to complete the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and promote peace and stability in the region.
According to the ISPR, the two leaders also discussed regional security and common challenges facing the countries.
General Raheel is on a two-day official visit of the country to hold meetings with senior political and military leadership of China.
The leadership appreciated Pakistan Army’s role for CPEC security and added that faster development of the project will realise the dream of prosperity across the region.
Both sides reaffirmed Pakistan-China friendship is evergreen, deep-rooted and strategic, and they will closely work to implement CPEC, the DG added.
The political and military leadership of China also reassured support for Pakistan in ensuring its sovereignty, integrity, security and development.
The leadership also appreciated accomplishments in indiscriminate fight against terrorism and eliminating hideouts of terrorists, while assuring support in capacity building.
Both sides agreed on the imperative of peace and stability in South Asia, with Chinese leaders affirming that challenges to Pakistan are challenges to China.
General Raheel also met the Vice Chairman Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff and Foreign Minister.-Agencies
