Mian Nawaz Sharif has made more than abundantly clear that he is going to go all out to block any meaningful and transparent probe into the allegations raised against him first by the Panama Leaks and then through opposition’s seven questions which have subsequently been raised to seventy.
The strategy devised to meet this objective is multi-pronged.
Firstly the attention of the people will continue to be diverted from the real issue linked with corruption and money-laundering to Imran Khan’s supposed misdoings— also to the evil practices of the hawkish group of the PPP (led by Aitzaz Ahsan).
Secondly, the proposed Commission’s formation will be delayed as long as possible so that the probe, if starts, will start in a ‘time zone’ overlapping the retirement of both the COAS and the CJ.
Thirdly, General Raheel Sharif will be made as controversial as possible and an internal strife will be encouraged within the top military leadership (the reported but unconfirmed news of possible legislation to amend the Army Act for the purpose of giving the PM final say in the promotion of generals, is a clear indication of the PML (N) designs in this regard).
Fourthly an attempt will be made to make Justice Jamali’s Judiciary questionable by creating a situation similar to one that had surfaced in 1997 (when the then CJ Justice Sajjad Ali Shah had been taught a befitting lesson).
Whether or not this complicated and dangerous strategy of the PML (N) to bail out Mian Nawaz Sharif will work, depends upon how Allah the All-Powerful acts on this issue that is related to the very ‘ethos’ and integrity of this country. Meaning thereby that MNS should pray hard in the coming weeks and months, and ensure that his prayers are heard by the Almighty Allah who by His own words is not Beneficent to compulsive and habitual sinners.
