Why is the killer of former governor Panjab not being hanged is beyond many people of this country? Why is the government so afraid of trying in a court of law the khateeb of Lal Masjid Islamabad is also not understandable to many? These two cases are classical examples where political expediency has taken precedence over the law of the land!If this policy would not lead to lawlessness in the country what else would it lead to? The so-called National Action Plan(NAP) was made precisely for weeding out all types of terrorism from the country , including religious fanaticism and if the armed forces or any quarter in the country complains that it is not being implemented in toto they are not doing anything wrong.
Many prominent persons including leading politicians and a fashion model had been hauled up for their involvement in corruption in the recent past but it seems that inordinate delay is being made in putting formal challan against them in the court of competent jurisdiction so that their trial in the cases against them gets underway. Justice delayed is justice denied. In the past similar cases against some prominent politicians were allowed to linger on for years together because political expediency had come into play and ultimately one fine morning reprieve was given to dozens of accused under the so- called NRO. The common man fears that history might repeat itself and the cases against the accused arrested in the near past in the Rangers’ led anti-corruption campaign might also suffer the same fate.
What does Ishaq Dar want to prove by changing the chairman FBR and his entire team and replacing it with a new one? It is fashionable in this country for politicians to pass on the buck for their failure to achieve anything to the mandarins by making them sacrificial lambs!Did he ever give in writing to the FBR to discard the so-called tax amnesty schemes? Did he ever direct it to go for direct rather than indirect taxation? Did he ever ask it to bring under the fax net the elite of the country without any favour to any segment of them? If he had done so and the FBR had failed to translate into reality his directives in that case mass reshuffle was justified, otherwise, mere change of faces is not going to improve the tax recovery system.
