What is Washington up to?Does it want to root out the Taliban through brute force or does it want to hit it off with them through talks?If it believes in parleys then why has it eliminated the chief of the Taliban through drone attack?Why did it kill him on Pakistan soil instead of killing him in Iran or Bahrain?Nobody is going to buy the argument of Obama that the US would continue to target its enemies the same way and in the same manner in the countries they were found in. Many persons are residing in Europe and the US from where they are masterminding sabotage in Pakistan. Would the American president allow them to be targeted with drone by us?There are wheels within wheels in the US policy on Afghanistan.
The Noshki incident gave the lie to the oft-repeated allegation of the US that a Pakistan intelligence agency provided shelter to the Taliban elders. Had that been the case then how and why the chief of Taliban was driving all alone without ant security guard inside Pakistan when he was targeted by the American drone?
The Americans failed to see the back of Taliban in Afghanistan when over one lac allied forces were stationed in Afghanistan. How can they now stamp them out when their number has been reduced to a paltry 10 000 or so?
POSTSCRIPT: There is an English language idiom ‘poachers turned gamekeepers. The near and dear ones or party members of the persons charged in the Panama leaks have been entrusted with the job of framing TORs. It is not their job. It is the job of the Commission which will broach the issue to frame them after listening to the arguments of the lawyers who will naturally be engaged by the persons named in these leaks for getting a clean bill of health. Strange things happen in this country.
