KARACHI, June 1: Maximum wealth of entire world has squeezed into hands of a handful through the menace of corruption and the ongoing campaign for the elimination of this menace of corruption is now a national issue which has to reach its logical end.
Lawyers fraternity has always played a pivotal role in al past movements and their active participation is a must for taking this anti-corruption campaign to its logical end.
Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf (PTI) central leader Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed these views while talking to the lawyers at the Karachi Bar Association at City Court Karachi Wednesday.
Other PTI leaders Dr Arif Alavi, Khurram Sher Zaman and Haleem Adil Shaikh were also present. The PTI central leader said that the committee that has been formed on Panama Papers Leaks has so far met four times but could not reach any decisive point of action because of non-serious attitude of committee members from the government side.
He said that the members of the committee from government side to look into the details and allegations raised in Panama Papers leaks have only been practicing jugulary and hence a deadlock has prevailed.
However, the federal government has to bear in mind that whatsoever tactic they might use, they would fail in diverting nation’s attention from the Panama Papers Leaks. Qureshi said that peoples’ problems have been doubled owing to this menace of corruption and national institutions have suffered to a level of utter devastation and bankruptcy. The federal government has utterly failed in meeting the collection of revenue through taxes because the taxpayers do not have trust in federal government. The nation’s money has been laundered abroad to invest in off-shore companies. He said that the corrupt elite have become the richest while the masses are being crushed under the burden of price-hike and other direct and indirect taxes. Qureshi said that today, the Panama Papers leaks is the talk of the town and the nation is standing away from the corrupt elements.
He said that the opposition parties under one canvass are striving to create harmony in their words and deeds on this particular subject of corruption and especially the issue that has emerged after Panama Papers leaks.
