azhar-mehmood0ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood the position of bowling coach of the national team which is set to tour England.
Talking to APP, a PCB official said that the board had offered the job to Azhar, which would also include duties of the assistant coach.
“After completing his contractual commitments with his county in England, Azhar is most likely to take up the assignment,” he said.
He said the appointment of Azhar has come up after consultations with head coach Mickey Arthur.
“Mickey wanted a Pakistani assistant coach with him so that he can communicate and understand the players better, therefore besides being the bowling coach Azhar will also assist Arthur,” he said.
Azhar was also appointed bowling coach on a short-term basis for the World T20 in India where Pakistan performed poorly which resulted in many changes to the team and management.
Azhar had played 21 tests, 143 ODIs and 176 first-class matches.
Azhar has been active at domestic level since his last international game in 2007. As a vastly experienced all-rounder, he has played 225 T20s, representing teams from Pakistan, England, India, Bangladesh, New Zealand and the West Indies.
Pakistan’s tour to England includes four Tests, five ODIs and a one T20I. The first Test will start on July, 14.
