saqlanmushtaqPakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday announced Mushtaq Ahmed and Azhar Mahmood as the bowling coaches for the unlimited and limited-overs legs of the upcoming tour of England respectively.
Australian Steve Rixon was also appointed as fielding coach to lift dwindling fielding standards.
A Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman said: “We have appointed Rixon as fielding coach, Mushtaq Ahmed as bowling coach for Tests, Azhar Mahmood (bowling coach) for the limited over series,” said the spokesman.
Rixon was appointed on the recommendation of head coach Mickey Arthur, who was brought in last month after Pakistan’s disastrous World Twenty20 in India where it failed to reach the semi-finals.
Rixon, 62, is regarded as a hard taskmaster and Arthur said last week the team’s fielding was “in need of a huge lift”.
Grant Flower will be retained as the batting coach.
Mahmood, who played for Pakistan from 1996 till 2007, was appointed as the national side’s bowling consultant for the ICC World T20 in India earlier this year that ended in Pakistan’s premature exit.
Ahmed, the former leg-spin bowler, is currently associated with the National Cricket Academy. However, on Mickey Arthur’s persistence the PCB has decided to release him.
The leggie previously has been associated with English cricket team in the spin bowling consultant’s capacity.
