Who is running Pakistan?
That is the question of the day. And the decade.
Is it Mian Nawaz Sharif who is recuperating from a reportedly complicated heart surgery?
Is it Madam Maryam Nawaz Safdar who has been busy building an impression that she is now READY to succeed her father in the PM House?
Is it Mr Ishaque Dar who is facing a kind of revolt in the cabinet led by no less a figure in the cabinet than Chaudhry Nisar Ali?
Is it the common will of the known cronies of the Sharif family that is in control?
Or is it the powerful-yet hesitant GHQ which on the second anniversary of the launch of the Operation Zarb-i-Azb is surprised to learn that it was Mian Nawaz Sharif who one night two years ago woke up General Raheel Sharif and ordered him to bomb North Waziristan?
Whatever be the answer closest to truth, what the bewildered and the worried people of Pakistan want is a Government that has a visible face, a visible will, and a visible Action Plan— so necessary to confront the enemies within, and the enemies beyond the frontiers of the country.
The Panama Leaks issue remains unresolved. Infact it has yet to enter the initial stage of working out a road map towards eventual resolution.
The ruling family wants the names of its princes and princess struck off if the process of resolving the issue has to get started. The problem is that Panama isn’t a country in our jurisdiction, and its ‘Leaks’ aren’t our doing. Only a fair and transparent investigation can lead to the ‘striking off’ of the royal names.
Another unresolved issue is the massacre that occurred two years ago in Model Town Lahore the like of which might have been the notorious Jalianwala Bagh massacre at the hands of the British Police.
Allama Tahir ul Qadri is here to revive the national outrage at this massacre. An FIR had been registered under the supervision of the Army Chief about two years back in this connection.
Almost every notable name in the ruling party had been named in that FIR including the Prime Minister and the Punjab Chief Minister.
Dr Tahir ul Qadri is demanding the setting up of a military court to take that FIR to its logical conclusion.
But the question that is bogling the minds of the Nation remains fundamental. WHO IS RUNNING PAKISTAN TODAY?
