LAHORE, June 20: Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has announced a march against corruption in Rawalpindi after Eidul Fitr and advised the rulers to renounce corruption and present themselves for accountability before they were thrown out of power.
Addressing a press conference at Mansoora before leaving for Umrah on Monday, he said that the JI had given much time to the government for deciding a line of action to weed out corruption but the government and some elements in the opposition were not serious about that. He said the government did not want the accountability of the Prime Minister and the opposition was also against Ehtisab.
However, he said “we would not let the issue bury in the dust.” We want the accountability of all including the Prime Minister, he added.
Sirajul Haq said, had the rulers any moral courage; the judicial commission for accountability should have been set up already. He said, the failure of the nine meetings of the ToR committee was
clear evidence that the government was not ready to neither constitute the judicial commission nor appear before it for accountability. He said that the present government system would not allow any effective action against the plunderers.
Sirajul Haq said that the Supreme Court had been taking suo moto action on petty matters but was not ready to take action against those plundering billions of the public money.
He said the NAP had no authority to let off those gobbling up billions by recovering a few lakhs.
The JI chief reiterated his suggestion that the appointment of the NAB Chairman should be made by a judicial committee comprising the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chief Justices of all High Courts.
He said that so many proofs had been produced before the NAB about the mega corruption of different people and even the international media had released reports on that but the NAB had not moved at all.
Sirajul Haq said that the idol of corruption could be seen in the corridor of power all around but the institutions of accountability could not locate it. He said there was despair among the masses and the youth were disappointed of their future. Five per cent feudal lords owned 64 per cent of the country’s land and 95 per cent of the country’s wealth.
The JI asked the rulers burdening the country with foreign loans as to why these loans were secured and where the amounts had been spent.
“I warn the plunderers to seek penitence before Allah for corruption and return the looted wealth failing which the masses would lay siege around their palaces and they would not able allowed to get out’, he added.
Meanwhile Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Sirajul Haq has left for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. He is scheduled to return home after Eidul Fitr. After performing Umrah, he would also visit the Rauza of the Holy Prophet at Madina.
In the absence of the JI Ameer, the JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch will work as acting Ameer. He took oath of his new responsibilities at a simple ceremony held at the Mansoora Committee room. Large number of JI workers besides senior party leaders were present at the ceremony.-Sabah
