Pakistan national team chief selector Inzamamul Haq will join the tour of England from fourth Test onwards, following instructions from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Press Trust of India reported on Tuesday.
The former skipper was initially supposed to travel with the national side on the tour, however, the board altered these plans to avoid unnecessary expenses.
According a PCB official, the 46-year-old veteran will now travel after the conclusion of the third Test and will stay with the national team for the remainder of the tour. “Inzamam will travel to England after the third Test and stay there for the final Test at the Oval, the one-day series and the T20I match,” the official said.
The official added this move allows the chief selector to hold discussions with the selection committee prior to commencement of the limited-overs leg of the tour. “Inzamam himself wanted to watch the players in action in English conditions so that he could be in a better position to evaluate as to which player will be required for the limited over matches,” he said.
Since his appointment as chief selector, the Multan-born has been closely involved with preparations for tour of England. The former batsman has been working closely with Test captain Misbahul Haq and newly appointed head coach Mickey Arthur in the lead-up to the series.
Pakistan, which is touring England for a full series for the first time since 2010, will play four Tests, five ODIs and one T20 match besides several side matches over two and half months.
