
BERLIN, June 21: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the ministry of foreign affairs on Tuesday. The focus of the discussion was bilateralism, regional security & peace in region.
German Foreign Minister acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution in war against terrorism and regional peace. He assured full German support to Pakistan in countering challenges it faces.
Army Chief also held an interactive session in Korber Foundation, a renowned think tank in Berlin. He explained in detail the challenges faced by Pakistan and its efforts towards peace and stability in the region. Army Chief said Pakistan is successfully concluding Operation Zarb-e-Azb and the armed forces have cleared entire FATA up to borders. The COAS also sought support of the international community in Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate terrorism. “Moving beyond this critical stage will require greater understanding and support of International community. We have sacrificed immensely, more than any other nation. World needs to stand by us till dividends are fully realised,” he said. “Terrorism has morphed into a global phenomenon and warrants global response.
