One can only laugh at the statement of chief minister Sind that influential persons in the province were behind land grabbing and target killing. He also said some hidden hands were also involved in these offences who he doesn’t want to name. He also claimed to have retrieved a big chunk of land from the clutches of the land mafia, though he didn’t furnish its details.
May one ask him some questions for setting the record straight ?Isn’t it a fact that he and his political party has been in power for about 8 years now in Sind and out of these 8 years he enjoyed the unstinted support of the federal government for 5 years also as his party was in power in Islamabad between 2008 and 2013?Why is he working as a mere reporter ?Was it not his duty as chief executive of the province to not only name the target killers but to ensure that they were arrested and they got their just deserts ?Why should he be shy of making public the names of those influential persons who, he says, were at the back of the land mafia and target killers? If he has retrieved thousand of acres of land from land grabbers, there is nothing to boast about it. Wasn’t it his duty to do so, being custodian of public property? His recent long speech in the provincial assembly was, in fact, a tacit admission of his failure as an administrator. In point of fact, he has himself levelled a big charge sheet against himself in his speech.
The CM should not pose himself as an innocent man. The fact of the matter is that he has proved himself to be a very weak administrator who is shy of taking strong action against the criminals owing to political expediency. Had he been a strong administrator, a go-getter, things would not have come to such a pass and he would have got things done. Instead of prevaricating he would have taken timely action in many administrative matters. It goes without saying that he suits Zardari more than anybody else. He could not have found more loyal subordinate than him. This is the prime reason for his longevity in power and why has he been tolerated up till now despite his many shortcomings as an administrator.
Time has, however, come when Bilawal has to bring to the fore a strong administrator for running the show in Sind lest his party should be damaged in his home province beyond repair. Not many tears would be shed if Syed Qaim Ali Shah is now shown the door by Bilawal as enough is enough.
