PESHAWAR, June 30: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has directed to work out a transparent mechanism to put the existing system of exploration and exploitation of mineral resources of the province on scientific lines saying that transparency and scientific mining is the ultimate goal. Therefore, a transparent and ideally open system for modern and scientific exploration and exploitation is more needed today than before and that should replace the existing system which is weak and outdated and offers space for discretion and favoritism.
This he stated while presiding over a meeting convened here at CM Secretariat to discuss mineral Act 2016.
Senior Provincial Minister Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, Minister for Mineral development department Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli, Minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Quershi and other concerned authorities attended the meeting.
On the occasion, the Secretary Mines briefed the meeting about the draft of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Act 2016.
The Chief Minister said that the new approach should be for an integrated mining and the operation should be environmental friendly. He said that the new system for exploration and exploitation should be realistic taking into account the socio cultural environment of the province and it should be for the benefit of the province.
The Chief Minister directed for a law governing the transparent operation and production in this sector, covering all dimensions of this sector and that is beneficial for the province. He warned that there will be no compromise on transparency and openness in the sector and corrupt practices would be eliminated at all cost. The role and responsibility of the mineral investment facilitation was redefined and enhanced now it will be headed by Secretary instead of D.G.
In the concluding remarks, the Chief Minister candidly gave future course of action for all departments at the capacity building side saying that the department from now onward would only recommend and send such officers, officials and professionals for training abroad who has the background education, knowledge, skill and training in the relevant field that will only be beneficial for the province.
He directed the relevant officers to bring this to the next cabinet meeting.-PR
