ISLAMABAD, June 30: Foreign Office Spokesperson Muhammad Nafees Zakariya has said that Pakistan is open for dialogue with India for the resolution of all outstanding disputes, adding that the negotiation is the best way to resolve the issues between the two countries. He said there is complete harmony between civil and military leadership on all issues. He said our army is supporter of democratic process in country.
At his weekly news briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson pointed out that people to people contacts between the two countries are imperative to improve the existing atmosphere. In this connection, Pakistan always encourages the religious tourism.
Referring to a recent statement of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the spokesperson said that the people of Pakistan take great pride in the armed forces and revere them for their ultimate sacrifices for the country. He said nobody can create a wedge between the civilian and military leadership who are committed to support the democratic process.
When asked about the Mumbai attack case, the spokesperson said Pakistan had written to the Indian authorities seeking more evidence in the case. The response of the Indian side is still awaited. The spokesperson said an envoy conference will be held next month to discuss the foreign policy issues.
To a question, Nafees Zakariya said the Indian agent Kulbushan Yadav is still being interrogated. Our agencies are working on the information provided by the spy and making efforts to arrest the network. He said Pakistan will continue to take the world community particularly the United Nations into confidence on the matter as the situation warrants.
When asked about the QCG process, the spokesperson said all its member countries have repeatedly expressed their commitment towards the process. He said Pakistan is sincere for peace and stability in Afghanistan. He, however, said that the Afghan government and different factions need to engage in serious negotiations to achieve the objectives of peace and stability.
Responding to a question, the spokesperson rejected as baseless the allegations made by the Afghan national security adviser that Pakistan is supporting the IS militants. He said Pakistan itself is engaged in comprehensive efforts to root out the menace of terrorism.
About the return of Afghan refugees, Nafees Zakariya expressed the confidence that the Afghan side and the UNHCR should seriously engage with Pakistan for the early repatriation of the refugees to their homeland. He said the Prime Minister has offered generous support to the relocation of the refugees camps to Afghanistan so that they could easily integrate into the Afghan society. He pointed out that about three million Afghan refugees are still living in Pakistan and we want their dignified return.
To a question about the membership of Nuclear Suppliers Group, Nafees Zakariya said Pakistan will continue its efforts to get the membership of the nuclear club. He, however, maintained that the membership should be granted on non discriminatory basis. He said Pakistan has the credentials to become full member of the elite group.
Nafees Zakariya said the US Senator John McCain will be visiting Pakistan shortly and matters relating to defense cooperation are expected to be discussed during the visit. On the F-16 fighter jets, he said we have never closed the doors on the matter. He said the preparations regarding the conference of the Pakistani diplomats stationed in all important countries of the world are continued, adding that the ambassadors have been summoned for consultation. -Sabah
