It would have been better if the top leaders of the two main political parties had celebrated Eid in Pakistan amongst their people instead of London . What was the big deal in Bilawal and his sisters flying into Heathrow on the eve of Eid and Nawaz Sharif not flying into Lahore before Eid when his surgeons had given him a clean bill of health to fly into his country. Such an attitude on their part only show their priorities. Their financial and business interests don’t lie in their homeland which is used by them only for befooling the electorate during elections for getting into the citadel of power where their sole concern is how to use their official position to line their pockets as much as possible
It has become customary on the part of our leadership to perform hajj and umras on taxpayer’s money. A strange situation in this connection developed towards the fag end of Ramadhan. The prime minister was away from the country for his open heart surgery. The president should not have left for umra in his absence. He could have waited till the PM’return but he didn’t. The Senate chairman who was acting president during Mamnoon Hussain’s absence from the country thought why should he be left behind so he too embarked on his journey to perform umra leaving the speaker of the NA to assume responsibility of the office of the president . He too was on his way out to a European country for a visit when saner counsel prevailed and he was asked to stay back till the return of the president because the constitution does not allow absence of these public office holders from the country simultaneously. The question is that if after all these johnnies wanted to perform umra at the poor taxpayer’s money couldn’t they have waited and gone turn by turn instead of going at the same time?
POSTSCRIPT: In a couple of days Pakistan’s cricket team is to start its test series in England against the home side. Our boys are in terrific form as is evident from their form showed by them in a match with an English county team. If they succeed in maintaining their form they are quite capable of springing a surprise and giving a run for their money to their hosts besides giving the ticket holders present in the ground many joyous moments.
