Islamabad is abuzz with rumours which may turn out to be no more than rumours.
And Mian Nawaz Sharif is inundated with a Herculean resolve to cling on to power even if it amounts to bringing the wheels of governance to a grinding halt.
He is so obsessed with the desire to hang on to the feel of being the Prime Minister of Pakistan that he gives little or no importance to the fact that he is the all-powerful boss of his party, and even if he nominates someone else to perform the duties of the Chief Executive of the country, his authority is going to remain supreme.
His dilemma is that he can’t think of considering anyone else to occupy the P.M House except his daughter Maryam who is already trying hard to exert herself as his father’s deputy.
Mian Nawaz Sharif had many options. He could nominate his younger brother. Or Chudhry Nisar Ali. Or even some one as non-controversial as Raja Zafar ul Haque. But that has never been the mindset of any emperor in history. Mian Nawaz Sharif has only to wear a crown to be officially regarded as Pakistan’s royalty. He already has a throne. And an army of courtiers.
Unfortunately for Mian Nawaz Sharif, Maryam’s name appeared on the list of the Panama Leaks culprits at a very wrong moment. Even more unfortunately, her own previous statements, and those of her brothers seemed to be making a mockery of the clarifications of the royal family.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif has no political future in the country. She too may be soon making up her mind to declare U.K her home.
A miracle may still occur and the Royal family may still be bailed out.
But all odds are against this miracle occurring.
NO NRO is in sight.
