PESHAWAR, July 12: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak chaired a meeting of the select committee on universities (Amendment) Bill, 2016 here in the Provincial Assembly secretariat that approved the criteria for selection of the Vice Chancellors in all public sector tertiary educational institutions throughout the province. The provincial government will recommend a panel of three with relevant educational and administrative background wherein one will be selected among the panel of three for a single given university.
The recommendations suggesting different amendments to different sections and sub sections of the draft act that would be incorporated into the main law to be tabled in the Provincial Assembly. The meeting gave a nod to the model statue defining the jurisdiction of Senate and syndicate.
Provincial Minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Quershi, Senior Minister for Local Government Inayatullah Khan, Special Assistant to CM on Information and Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Assembly Dr. Mehar Taj Roghani , other members of the select committee and concerned authorities attended the meeting.
The meeting approved certain criteria, identified district and division for the selection of Class – IV and onward employees up to 15 scale respectively.
The Chief Minister addressing the participants said that education was to be a state concern, state monitored and state facilitated because these learning institutions produce scientists, doctors, engineers and other professionals and above all undertake character building of the youth therefore any whimsical decisions would cause great damage to the nation. The whimsical decisions in the past deteriorate the standard of education at tertiary level. Pervez Khattak said that his government has made up its mind to give political and administrative direction to the education sector in the province that will lead to better future. We have a vision to select the excellent amongst the best and therefore we are going to make legislation under the definite aim to make better future for the future generation.
Pervez Khattak said that the role and responsibilities of Vice Chancellors could not be ignored in the overall estimates as good Vice Chancellor could make an institution an ideal one and a bad one will vice versa. He hoped that academic research committee would do more than our expectations for putting on ground our vision for modern and international standard. He asked the participants for proposals to make the imminent legislation for tertiary education more beneficial.-PR
