Islamabad has a point there when it demands that America should carry out drone attacks on terrorists like Mullah Fazlullah and his likes who have been provided sanctuaries by the Afghan authorities in their country. Islamabad is also right when it asks Washington to exercise its influence on Kabul in getting these terrorists arrested or killed. It is quite sometime now that Pakistan has been demanding of the Afghan government to take action against them but it seems up till now our plea has fallen on the deaf ears. The statement of Kabul that attack on Bacha Khan university was not masterminded by any element inside Afghanistan cannot be taken without a pinch of salt. Kabul’s role vis-a-vis this country has always been dubious. It has, unfortunately, always nursed a soft corner in its heart for India and allowed New Delhi to use its land for subversive activities inside Pakistan.
There is a common perception that the government has been rather selective in the implementation of the National Action Plan and it has been lukewarm in its approach towards the lunatic fringe among the religious parties which continues to indulge in spreading sectarian hatred. There is no denying the fact that if the National Action Plan would not be implemented in toto the desired results would never be achieved. It is not understandable why the government is shy of taking on sectarian element.
The common man also wants more information about the names, nationality and other credentials of the terrorists which the Armed forces claim to have killed in air attacks and other types of punitive action.
POSTSCRIPT:Proper lessons from the shock defeat of Pakistan at the hands of Kiwis in the recent three-match twenty-twenty series should be taken. There is still some time left to make amends for the shortcomings noted in this series.
