It seems that the understanding reached between Nawaz Sharif and late Benazir in London a few years back that I will scratch your back and you will scratch mine is no longer in vogue. The PPP has realised, though belatedly, that it has caused it more harm than good because of the common perception that deep down these two political parties are in league with each other. The tone and tenor of speeches of Bilawal Bhutto made in Azad Kashmir recently wax eloquent of the fact that the PPP has drawn the battle lines against the PML(N). The PTI has recently emerged as a political force to be reckoned with in Azad Kashmir and the odds are that it is going to benefit in Azad Kashmir because of the political conflict between the two leading parties of the valley , namely the PPP and the PML(N) if not today, certainly in the near future definitely.
What is , however, unfortunate is the present timings. In the occupied valley of Kashmir there is resurgence of fresh wave of agitation on the part of the Kashmiri freedom fighters against India’s domination of the valley while in its adjacent Azad valley of Kashmir two leading political parties are locked in a violent election campaign. The Americans who are never tired of championing the cause of human rights are looking the other way and gross violation of human rights in occupied Kashmir on the part of Indian occupation army in Kashmir doesn’t amuse them.
The ruling party must be drawing comfort from the fact that a sizable number of parliamentarians want the present government to complete its stint in office up till 2018. This, however , does not mean that the opposition parties are going to sit on their haunches enabling the rulers to heave a sigh of relief. The opposition is going to make their life difficult in the run up to the next election which isn’t quite far away so we are going to face a scenario full of political activities in the days to come.
