The gory blood-curdling and insanely barbaric massacre at Quetta Hospital has occurred at a time when a nationwide campaign against corruption and terrorism has just about begun. It is a strange coincidence that whenever a campaign of that nature gets underway, there is an event of crude brutality like that, forcing the media and the nation to change focus. This coincidence however is not my subject here. In these echoes of the heart I want to throw light on two ‘positive’ possibilities that can result from this tragedy. It will not be the first time in history that a catastrophic event can prove to be pregnant with some ‘bright’ probabilities.
One positive result from this tearful tragedy can come in the form of a genuine resolve on the part of General Raheel Sharif to set aside all ‘political restraints’ and launch an across-the-board ‘go-for-the-kill operation’ against terrorists and their multi-natured facilitators nationwide. Punjab has been made no-go area for the Rangers who are hunting down terrorists elsewhere. All indications are that Punjab could turn out to be the safe haven for the ‘targeted terrorists’ whose sanctuaries in Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s as well as Rana Sanaullah’s province might have the ‘patronage’ and the blessings of the people in power.
General Raheel Sharif has a golden opportunity to part his foot down and let his guns of resolve open fire on the elements that are breeding monsters of destructive intents.
A similar ‘glorious’ opportunity can be perceived, by Mian Nawaz Sharif to put to sword all speculations regarding his clandestine partnership with Modi in the cause of the fulfillment of obscene dreams of monstrous greed.
He can open his mouth now to tell India: “Enough is enough. Stop sending your Kalbhushan Yadevs to our country for such acts of heinous butchery. Or we will be forced to come out with a raw response to your RAW”.
