Man is known by the company he keeps—not by the statements he makes. Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in one of his very very rare appearances in the National Assembly read out a calculated tribute to the armed forces and the security agencies of Pakistan for their dauntless and praiseworthy endeavours to root out terrorism from the country. This ‘tribute’ came in the wake of the reports that, in the meeting of the civil and military leadership he had presided earlier over National Security matters, the Army officials had conveyed to the government strong displeasure of the Corps Commanders at the recent vilification campaign unleashed against the Military Establishment by the allies as well as some leaders of the ruling party.
What kind of company Mian Nawaz Sharif keeps ?
Should I start with the so-called Maulana, Mr Fazl ur Rahman who has put the entire blame of the Quetta mayhem on the security agencies, and condemned all efforts to implicate the RAW?
Or should I mention the son of the Balochi Gandhi the late Abdul Samad Achakzai who had been a staunch opponent of the Pakistan Movement and Quaid-i-Azam? Of course it is Mahmood Achakzai I am talking of, who has expressed his strong displeasure at implicating the RAW and the Afghan Secret Service in what he believes are the acts of the Security Agencies and the Armed Forces of Pakistan themselves?
Should I make a reference to the JUI’s Maulana Sherani’s no-holds-barred condemnation of the ‘Military Establishment’ in connection with the Quetta massacre?
Should I draw the attention of the Nation to the PML (N)’s Mian –backed spokesperson Senator Mushahidullah who in a recent meeting of the ‘supporters’ of democracy went as far as to indirectly suggest that the Army that had caused the break-up of Pakistan in 1971, is again engaged in activities of the similar nature?
Of course I will not mention here Chairman Senate Rabbani’s compulsive hatred for the Uniform as well as Senator Farhatullah Babar’s routine vilification of the Army, because they are the PPP’s stalwarts. But not to mention Najam Sethi will be a bad omission. He has a known record of being pro-India— and anti-Pak Army.
Prime Minister’s close relationship with the minds that run the anti-Army Geo network needs also to be mentioned.
And last of all—but not the least—his famous embrace with the infamous Prime Minister of India.
MNS excels in the art of buying time. He has stated that he is determined to root out terrorists in two and a half mouths. That is the period he has to pass before (as per his expectations) he will see the back of General Raheel Sharif.
Sadly far him, Pakistan Army does not have a General who will support him in his grand plan to become a member of the Club of the Sub-Continent’s tycoons— in company of Tata, Birla, Ambani, Mittal and Jindal (his business partner).
