- NIHCR observes Independence Day
ISLAMABAD, August 12: The National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NIHCR), Islamabad Friday observed Independence Day by hoisting the National Flag and cutting the cake to mark the 69th Independence Day falling on Sunday, August 14, 2016.
The Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Javed Ashraf, who was the chief guest on the occasion, hoisted the national flag filled with flowers at the NIHCR building.
The chief guest also inaugurated the NIHCR Publications Display Corner. The ceremony was attended by a large number of students, teachers and the staffers.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor said that we are fortunate enough to have an independent sovereign state where people belonging to any religion, sect, culture, ethnicity or language have complete liberty as citizens. The gathering shows a feeling of independence and love with the country which our forefathers liberated after matchless sacrifices, he observed.
Prof Dr Javed Ashraf said that Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah gave the nation a separate homeland. He said that 14th August was a day of great happiness for the nation because it reminds we must educate our community to stand united and work for the betterment of education and progress of the country.
Dr Sayed Wiqar Ali Shah, Chairman, Department of History and Dean Social Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad urged for working hard as per Quaid’s saying “Work, Work, and Work” to fulfil the vision of the Father of the Nation with sincerity and devotion to achieve progress and prosperity.
The NIHCR Officer Incharge Syed Umar Hayat opined that the NIHCR has been doing its utmost to dig out the true the history and culture of Pakistan. He said there was a need to understand the philosophy of independence which was a great blessing of Almighty Allah. He added that Pakistan came into being after innumerable sacrifices by our forefathers, therefore, it was our duty to educate our children and youth about how Pakistan became possible.
