The newly established checking post at Torkham has started functioning the other day which is a welcome development. But for resolute stand taken by Pakistan Army in the face of stiff opposition of Kabul against its construction, the said check post would not have been commissioned. There is a need for setting up of more similar checking posts on all the vantage points along the Durand Line from South Waziristan up to Bajaur as well as on our border line with Iran and Afghanistan in Baluchistan. This is one sure way of checkmating free-for-all entry of foreigners into Pakistan. There is also a dire need that all those Frontier Constabulary platoons that have been deployed in the settled districts in the aid of police for the law and order duties be returned so that they could be deployed in FC picquets located on the boundary of KPK with FATA for keeping a strict vigil on all types of movements from tribal areas to the settled districts. These FC picquets are , in fact, second line of defence against the activities of the subversive element. Afghanistan has always played into the hands of New Delhi right from the day Pakistan came into existence and the recent political developments in the region show that Iran too has also been mollycoddling with India fully knowing its anti-Muslim policies in general and anti-Pakistan in particular. We should, therefore, also revisit our foreign policy making it commensurate with our national interests.
A strict visa system needs to be introduced for entry into Pakistan of Afghans as well as Iranians because of wave of terrorism in this country which shows no sign of any let up.
The current campaign of reverification of CNICs needs to be taken to its logical conclusion and no political expediency be shown in this matter. Those found in possession of bogus identity cards must be made an example of by handing them down strict punishment. Those government functionaries who helped them in obtaining bogus identity cards should be proceeded against under relevant law and also debarred from appointment in any government and semi- government department.
