The federal capital is quite manageable from the law and order’s point of view. It has a planned habitation within well laid down parameters of land and all the entry points of Islamabad can be conveniently kept under effective surveillance. Despite these facts Islamabad has heavy automatic weapons galore of prohibitive bore and it is the elite which possesses them mostly either unlicensed or covered by special permits.
How come heavy automatic weapons which are present in abundance in the federal capital in the first place found their way to it?
One can hear fusillades of aerial firing with AK 47 rifles whenever the elite of the federal capital want to celebrate the arrival of a baby boy in their family or on the special occasions like sighting of eid moon or independence day and all this happen right under the nose of Islamabad policemen who know like the back of their hands as to the houses from where aerial firing is being indulged into. The police is helpless to lay their hands on those who are in possession of this weaponry because they are politically influential persons having close connections in the corridors of power. The recent open clash between two rival groups in a posh residential sector of Islamabad is a case in point in which a couple of casualties also took place and which disturbed peace and tranquility of other residents of the area.
A stitch in time saves nine. It is much easier to nip an evil in the bud the moment it raised its ugly head. If timely action is not taken to de-weaponise the federal capital immediately it would turn into another Karachi before long. Many cases of car thefts and day light robberies are being reported from various localities of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and in most of them the police was reluctant to enter FIR as registration of such reports reflect badly on their functioning.
