LONDON, August 21: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari stated on Sunday that the Terms of References (ToRs) proposed by the Opposition regarding the investigation of the Panama Papers issue were effective and constitutional, adding that the investigation of the matter needs to take place at all costs.
The former president met with Senator Babar Awan in London on Sunday as both had discussion over the current political situation of the country and on the investigation of the Panama Leaks issue.
Babar Awan briefed PPP Co-chairman about the stances of the Opposition parties and the lawyers regarding the Panama Leaks issue.
He said that accountability should be held against every corrupt person because the process of democracy and government cannot be run without accountability.
Asif Zardari stated that the Opposition’s ToRs were not only effective but were constitutional as well, further stating that PPP shall celebrate its golden jubilee year from November 2016 till November 2017.
He also announced that PPP will celebrate year of ‘PPP Golden Jubilee’ from November 2016 to November 2017.
On the other hand, PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan has advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) not to take the Panama Papers issue to the Supreme Court (SC) if the party has decided that it shall hit the roads against the investigation of the matter and will initiate a movement. Aitzaz also stated that PPP shall not head to the SC regarding the Panama Papers.-Sabah
