Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis have reached the finals of the women’s doubles at the Australian Open.
The doubles top seeds on Wednesday easily dispatched 13th seeds Julia Goerges and Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 6-0 in a one-sided semifinal that lasted only 54 minutes at Rod Laver Arena to enter their third successive doubles grand Slam final.
The Indian-Swiss pair have now extended their winning streak to 35 games.
Sania and Martina broke their rivals twice in the first set, which lasted 26 minutes, before steamrolling the German-Czech combo in the second set. This will be the first Australian Open final for Sania and Hingis.
The Indo-Swiss duo won the Wimbledon and US Open titles, before winning the season ending WTA Finals in 2015.
They continued their superb form this year, winning back-to-back titles at the Brisbane and Sydney International events, before starting their Australian Open campaign.
Sania-Hingis will next face seventh seed Czech pair of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in the summit clash. -Agencies
