Napier, January 28: The second ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan did not see a coin flipped nor a ball bowled on Thursday as inclement weather and a waterlogged outfield saw the match abandoned.
The fans in Napier had been left to hang on till the last minute as the rain did eventually stop, but the drainage at the ground was not up to par for the amount of water, and the players’ safety was paramount.
New Zealand thus still lead the series one-nil going into the final game in Auckland on 31 January, having won the first game with relative ease.
The Black Caps will follow this series up by hosting Australia in all formats, while Pakistan have no fixtures scheduled until the World Twenty20 in India in March. – Online
