KARACHI, September 16: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan released after police arrested him from his residence in Karachi on Friday.
Talking to a private television after release, Khawaja Izhar said that he would inform the media about the entire situation at 10pm Friday.
He said that after his arrest her mother had suffered a heart attack.
Khawaja Izhar’s lawyer said that his client was released only after assurance that he would present himself before a court tomorrow.
Police today arrested Khawaja Izharul Hasan from his residence in Karachi’s Buffer Zone area.
He was handcuffed and taken away by SSP Malir Rao Anwar in an Armoured Personnel Vehicle (APV).
Television footage available with Geo News showed MQM Pakistan chairman Farooq Sattar trying to shove away policemen who dragged away Khawaja Izhar.
Later on, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah suspended Rao Anwar, saying that the SSP’s method was wrong.
He said that if Rao Anwar was found at fault then he would be punished.
After his suspension, SSP Malir talking to media said that seeking the permission of Speaker was not necessary to arrest a member of parliament.
He said that MQM leader cannot be released without court orders, adding that the arrest was not carried out over anyone’s directions.
Later in the day, Khawaja Izhar was transferred from Gaddap police station to Karachi police office.
Speaking to media outside Khawaja Izhar’s residence Farooq Sattar condemned how the parliamentarian was taken away without an arrest warrant. “This is undemocratic behaviour.”-Agencies
