As I write this piece, the joint committee set up by the Prime Minister to work on a joint communiqué to be issued to register the Nation’s united response to Indian aggression and acts of brutality in Kashmir, is brooding upon its job.
There is going to be strong condemnation of Indian highhandedness and atrocities. Also great concern over India’s nefarious designs. India will be warned in no uncertain words that any aggressive act on its part will be responded to befittingly. A forceful assertion will also be made to the effect that all the political parties and the whole nation stand united against Indian threats acts and designs.
Very impressive.
But I regard it only as cosmetic response. Who doesn’t know that Pakistanis as a nation are ONE against India’s designs? In fact the presence of Mahmood Achakzai in the meeting was an ironical paradox. It gave me an impression that India and Afghanistan— Pakistan’s hostile neighbours too were represented in the meeting.
In my opinion it is the policy that matters. Also the man behind the policy. The policy that the present government has been pursuing since Modi’s swearing-in ceremony is known to the whole world, which also knows the ‘Man’ behind this policy. Will Modi take seriously, warning issued through a joint communiqué?
What is required in the present scenario is a behaviour on the part of Pakistan which convinces men sitting in New Delhi that each word that is spoken or aired from Islamabad will be practiced in letter and spirit. Pakistan needs a leadership that sends cold chills in the spines of India’s Modis.
