MUZAFFARABAD, October 4: Indian border security forces once again resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling across the Line of Control at Samahni Sector on early Tuesday morning which lasted for two hours.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Indian troops targeted Pakistani positions at Bhimber sectors including Khanjar and Baroh, and resorted to indiscriminate fire.
The shelling continued from 4am to 6am in the morning. In another ceasefire violation, Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) at Bandala sector.
Pakistan Army personnel gave befitting reply to the aggression, silencing the Indian guns. No loss of life was reported till filing this report. Indian border troops also opened fire at Iftikharabad, Nezapur and Keelar sectors of the LoC on Monday.
The latest exchange came after suspected militants fired on an army camp in the Indian Kashmir town of Baramulla late Sunday killing one trooper, before being repelled.
Tensions have been high in the region since the killing of Burhan Wani, a young Kashmiri separatist in July, which was followed by weeks of imposed curfew and deadly protests in the Indian-controlled portion.
It should be noted that two Pakistani soldiers were martyred when Indian forces violated the Line of Control ceasefire with unprovoked fire on Thursday. Indian Director General of Military Operations had also claimed of carrying out surgical strikes in Pakistani territory but did not present any evidence regarding his claim.
The surgical strikes in Pakistan, a serious claim on the part of India, were also questioned by the international media. United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) said that it found no evidence of any surgical strike in the country. -DNA
