Those amongst us whose eyes remain closed, and minds unconcerned even after more than three months of brutal butchery of the Muslims of Kashmir at the hands of India’s occupying army, are, in my opinion, traitors to the ideology that created this country. In 1965, it was argued that there had been no indigenous uprising in the Occupied Kashmir, and the events of the last three weeks of August 1965 had been the work of Pakistan army.
In 2016 (51 years later) the world is witnessing the whole of Kashmir up and chanting: WE WANT FREEDOM. PAKISTAN ZINDAABAD. The world is also witnessing the Butcher of Gujrati Muslims, repeating his blood-curdling performance of blood-letting, against the Kashmiri Muslims. This man Modi has been meticulously honest in expressing, through words and deeds, his obscene hatred for Islam, for Muslims and for Pakistan. He, infact, rode the tidal wave of ‘Kill Muslims’ sentiment to score a thumping victory in the last elections, knocking out all sane elements from the Indian political scene.
In 2003, Khushwant Singh, in his long treatise on the Bloodbath in Gujrat, titled End of India, had observed that there was a dire possibility of Modi becoming the face of India, and if that happened the Indian federation would blow up.
It has happened.
And the irony of all ironies is that our Prime Minister rushed to New Delhi to express his ‘solidarity’ with Modi’s India when the butcher of Gujrat was sworn in. Even worse irony was in store for us, when the unprecedented event of Modi and his men attending the wedding of our Prime Minister’s granddaughter occurred last year on the 25th of December. The world on that day witnessed the ironical spectacle of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan, and Prime Minister Modi of India entering into a political wedlock.
Hadn’t Modi at that time already visited Bangladesh and proudly and joyfully declared there: “WE FOUGHT SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH YOU, SHED BLOOD WITH YOUR BLOOD, in wining your war of freedom from Pakistan.”?
Some analysts are likely to argue here that Sharif family is a business family and it has business relations with India’s Jindal family whose business operations enjoy the support of Modi; Thus Mian’s ‘warmth’ towards the India’s prime minister need not be over-criticised.
But the question here is WHY SHOULD PAKISTAN’s future pay for its ruling family’s passion for business?
It is a great tragedy that since Vajpaee’s Lahore yaatra as a result of Mian’s ‘back channel diplomacy’ offensive during his second term, Pakistan has continuously and deliberately lost ground to India with reference to the Security Council resolutions of the Nehru era.
Today the civil leadership (almost entirely across the board) has given up on Kashmir and are willing to do no more than LIP SERVICE in support of the Kashmir uprising. A mindset has taken roots and flourished that Kashmir is the issue of Pakistan’s army alone, because it needs this issue to stay afloat for its survival.
Both Zardari and Mian are the flag-bearers of this mindset. They have surrounded themselves with ‘minds’ and ‘mouths’ that tend to mock at the two-nation theory that created Pakistan.
This is a turning point in our history. If Pakistan is to live up to the longings of those who created it, the people of Pakistan will have to rise against the mindset that is trying to put Pakistan back into the lap of India.
The test case is KASHMIR.
Why has the issue of the bloodbath in Kashmir not been taken to the Security Council—even after the heating up of our borders?
Mian Nawaz Sharif owes an explanation to the Nation.
