ISLAMABAD, February 1: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has observed that PM would not return to office if once summoned in contempt of the court case, adding that people would face contempt of court proceedings if SC orders were not implemented in letter and spirit.
Justice Azmat Saeed remarked heading a two-member SC bench formed for hearing of a contempt of court case on Monday that no one would be allowed to defy court orders.
He further remarked, “If the court orders are not implemented, then we can also summon the prime minister. Once the prime minister is summoned, then he will not return to his office. There is much capacity in Adiala Jail. No one will be allowed to defy court’s orders. The Establishment Division secretary has been summoned repeatedly but he did not turn up to file the response”.
The court while expressing displeasure over non-appearance of the Secretary Establishment Division, has ordered issuance of promotion order of Customs Officer Umar Farooq within 48 hours as per the court earlier order. Arif Chaudhry, counsel for Umar Continued on page 7

Farooq, told the court that the establishment division was claiming that the summary has been sent to prime minister for approval, but, on ground, a game was being played with court for the last eight months.
Upon this, Justice Saeed remarked “if the situation is so, then we can summon the prime minister, who will be in trouble once he turns up.
Attorney General assured the court that court orders will be implemented and a notification in the particular case will be issued as per the court directives.
The court giving 48 hours for implementation on orders has adjourned the hearing for two days.-Sabah
